Cray, Kaiser Ltd. becoming a UIC Family Business Council (FBC) strategic partner/sponsor

As part of our continuing commitment to family-owned businesses in the Chicagoland area, Cray Kaiser is proud to become part of an elite group of organizations providing guidance and support to University of Illinois at Chicago's Family Business Council.

Our dedication to families and family-held businesses goes beyond the financial support we provide the FBC, but also through the services and resources our firm offers to the growing number of family-owned and other closely-held business members of the FBC.

The FBC was founded in the belief that family businesses offer a challenging and fulfilling way to create a legacy for oneself and society. At the same time, the FBC offers an opportunity to business leaders of all backgrounds and interests to share experiences and proven best practices. By pooling resources, FBC members can become better leaders, better spouses and better parents.

In 1992, local businessman James Liautaud approached UIC's College of Business Administration and offered to underwrite the development of a family business council. This council would serve the needs of family businesses by providing not only a forum to discuss the unique needs of such companies, but also provide access to the college's considerable resources. The first members joined the Family Business Council in 1993.

Today, the FBC has a membership of more than 70 companies, operating in areas as diverse as construction, printing, accounting, retail, metal fabrication, floor coverings and chemicals manufacturing. The council's businesses come together to address the common challenges faced by every family-owned and closely-held business, regardless of the product or service it offers.

New Staff

Sylvia Cedeno CPA is an audit supervisor with a degree from the University of Illinois-Chicago.  She has audit experience with various banks as well as another accounting firm.

Korina Carrillo CPA is a  senior accountant, with prior audit experience.  She has a Master of Business Administration, Accounting, from the University of Illinois at Chicago.

Delfino Unzueta is a staff accountant with  four years experience at another CPA firm.  He graduated from DePaul University.

Mike Kosinski is a new staff accountant.  He graduated from DePaul University.

Bernice Hull is an administrative assistant.  She has experience with both accounting and legal firms.

Cray, Kaiser Ltd. Partner Deanna Salo Featured in Crain’s Chicago Business

Deanna Salo, mother of two and partner at Oakbrook Terrace accounting and consulting firm Cray, Kaiser Ltd., was featured in the “Business of Life” section of the March 17, 2008 Crain’s Chicago Business.

The column was titled “Great Friends—until they had kids” and was a discussion of how parenting and career decisions affect friendships among women. Salo was interviewed and photographed for the piece.

She told the story of how different child-care decisions strained the relationship she had with a once-close friend.

“It was interesting to me, to show how decisions about your professional life can have long-term implications on your personal life,” Salo said about doing the story.

Salo has been with Cray Kaiser since 1986, and became a partner with the firm in 2001. She works with clients in assessing procedures and controls relating to privacy and confidentiality, performance measurements, systems reliability, information security, and outsourced process controls. She also has experience with mergers and acquisitions, handling both the buyer and seller’s side of the transactions.

She participates in various community organizations such as: Executive Board Member with both the DuPage Area Education to Careers and Technical Preparation and Empowering Women Network, Inc. and Chairperson of the DuPage Student Leadership Academy.
